These are some of the small utility programs that I seem to always be
using for broadcasting and audio setups over and over, so I thought I'd
put them up here for others to benefit from too. Most are freeware, some
are not, and I've used every one of these without problems on Windows.
If anyone has newer or better versions of these programs, or very
similar ones, post in the comments and let me know.
**** Sonos 4 Version 2.2.1 (Freeware) "...is a software multiband
compressor limiter for radio broadcasters. With this software and a
suitable sound card it is possible to turn a Windows PC into an radio
broadcast processor. The processor achieves its unparalleled loudness
through the use of a unique distortion masked final clipper."
The newest version of this, 3.0, is now a paid application.
**** MBL4 Broadcast version 2 - A low resource AGC, 4-band limiter for
radio.
**** Sonos Limit - Low resource wideband AGC + limiter with platform,
and separate pre-emphasis limiter. 2 versions, Limit by itself, and
Limit plus MBL4.
**** Virtual Audio Cable 4.10 - Allows audio devices to be connected
together, for example, your media player with the input to processor
software. (Non free, but fully working component)
**** "ASIO4ALL - the universal ASIO driver for WDM audio... ASIO4ALL is
a hardware independent low latency ASIO driver for WDM audio devices."
**** Stereo Coder - v1.30 - Previous version of what is now Airomate. A
standalone software stereo encoder for FM radio, taking audio from sound
card input or from players through Virtual Audio Cables and creating a
stereo multiplex signal from the sound card output.
**** Virtual Cart Machine - The freeware classic from DRS lives on! Load
buttons on the interface with different sound files and play them
manually or cued in order.
**** Mp3 Trim Pro - Standalone - Trim, fade, normalize mp3 files without
loss in fidelity from re-encoding. Non-free but apparently older version
with no file limits.
**** Shoutcast DNAS Streaming Server 1.9.8 Windows - Freeware. Use to
stream your radio station in mp3, either from your computer to another
server, or direct to listeners.
**** Simplecast 2.5.3 - 'You are a pirate' edition with serial. Creates
streams in several different formats, like mp3, ogg and AAC to send to a
server like Shoutcast DNAS above. Audio input can be from a sound card,
or from a player such as VU Player or Windows Media Player through
Virtual Audio Cables. There are free programs to create audio streams
out there, but I think this one is very nice.
**** Ogg Direct Show Filters - Play Ogg files through various players on
your system.
**** VU Player - Good player for simple radio, plays many formats
and has an auto fade between tracks feature that works very well.
